2003

After recording HavanaFax in July, no one listened to the tapes until the end of September. What a surprise to hear such a good concert recorded so well. Jeff sent some rough mixes to Havana for Chicoy, Tony and Avi, and the next thing you know HavanaFax is featured on the New Years Eve show on Cuban TV.

We needed to produce a CD. We needed some art for the CD. The picture came later that same that week at 4:00am outside Ton’s house. The CD just fell together.

Meanwhile some of Jeff’s students seemed to inherit the name Canadian Primos and they were busy recoding a CD in 2003. They were already performing to promote the Los Primos Project and they were also looking forward to a trip to Cuba in May 2004.

Los Primos wanted to present something really unique so we teamed up with Victor Syperek to invite dance Harold Hernandez to come to Nova Scotia with Jorge Chicoy and dance to HavanaFax. In the meantime Lisa Lindo moved to Halifax, providing us with a wonderful salsa singer and the band Latin Groove was invented immediately.
The CD release show included a performance by HavanaFax, Harold Hernandez dancing with Leslie Carvery and Latin Groove. It was great night at the Lord Nelson Hotel complete with slide show.
